Before the Orioles finalized a deal with Everth Cabrera, they wanted to make sure his legal troubles resolved, “That’s why it took as long as it did,” said Buck Showalter. “It wasn’t going to happen if it wasn’t, and we felt comfortable with it.” Cabrera had a trial scheduled for April for a charge that could have seen him spend up to a year in jail, but he made a plea deal in court Monday. Cabrera is on three years probation, received a $655 fine, and has to perform 80 hours of community service within the next year. “It’s resolved and he’s ready to play ball,”  Dan Duquette said.

Cabrera will have to work hard this spring to prove he should start with both Jonathan Schoop and Ryan Flaherty vying for spots at second. Second is most likely where Cabrera would find himself playing the majority of his innings and Cabrera says he does not mind

“I don’t care where they’re going to put me. I’m going to play hard and I’m going to compete every single day when they give me the opportunity to play,” Cabrera said to reporters said.

Buck also said he could see some time in the outfield “We’ve got a lot of guys we want to see in the outfield. We feel comfortable with some of the work and some of the due diligence that he can present himself well out there.”
